Pioneering the future of rare liver disease research

Our mission

Established in 2020 at the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology, the Peng Lab is dedicated to understanding and advancing research on childhood liver cancer, inherited metabolic liver diseases, and regenerative medicine. Our mission is to uncover the molecular mechanisms driving childhood liver cancer and to develop innovative therapeutic strategies. A cornerstone of our research has been the establishment of 3D hepatocyte organoid cultures, a method we have helped to pioneer. We continue to refine and leverage this powerful technology to model diseases and accelerate therapeutic discovery.

Impactful publications

The Peng Lab has a proven track record in advancing the field of liver biology and diseases. Our work on hepatocyte and liver cancer organoid models has facilitated the testing of novel treatment approaches, including small molecule inhibitors, immune therapies, and cell replacement therapies. Additionally, we have contributed valuable insights into WNT signaling, enhancing the understanding of its role in stem cell proliferation, liver biology and disease. Through our commitment to innovation and collaboration, we strive to transform the landscape of liver disease research and treatment.
